Entry #9. Media the Maelstrom

Media the Maelstrom

Media has become perhaps the most talked about topic in...the media. Everyone seems to be in agreement that things have gotten worse in the recent years, but debate on who to blame and why it is the case. It is not my intention to decipher which is the case, as I do not believe that people are justified in being so frightened.

It is annoying to see finger pointing happening by influential figures and multi-million dollar media companies. There is no sense that anyone knows what they are talking about anymore. Everyone criticizes everyone else (in varying degrees of maturity and reason), causing it to be difficult to trust anything anymore. The result is now no one seems to trust anyone but themselves about the news. Even in the realms of TV and Movies have been invaded by this idea of distrusting the media, but only when it is not us telling you things.

It is tragic to see that once reputable sources are now being considered untrustworthy. It is not just a matter of being told they are either, the previous post I made regarding CNN's article on nuclear energy showed before my eyes how manipulative these things can be, especially to those who do not do their own research. Unfortunately it appears as though no one has any intention to change anytime soon however, as this discourse has resulted in people flocking to hear what one source of media has to say about another. The profits now must be higher than when they were considered trustworthy.

Isn't that something?

The idea at this point does not seem to be keeping any sense of integrity, but to make enough money as quickly as possible by any means necessary. Oftentimes this leads to the media making everyone else out to be a boogeyman, antagonizing and provoking another group of people. Then this group of people would respond in a not-so mature way, and point the finger back at the first finger pointer. This repetitive cycle of hate has many eyes full of fire and passion, keeping people separated from each other, waiting to be told why.
